Leadership Academy

Mission:

  • To identify and develop new leaders who are members of Cape Fear REALTORS®.
  • To ensure the Cape Fear REALTORS® Leadership Academy is diverse, non-discriminatory, geographically representative, and forward-thinking in its vision, application, and administration.
  • To ensure that the program is designed to develop new skills that can be applied to benefit the candidates in their family life, community, local boards and associations, and state and national associations of REALTORS®.

The Cape Fear REALTORS® Leadership Academy identifies, inspires, and mentors emerging leaders from the local level for the Cape Fear REALTORS®. This leadership development program is designed to guide each participant through their own self-discovery process and to teach the necessary skills to become a more positive influence within the community and the industry.

Skills you will learn:

  • Find and Develop Various Types of Leaders – a great skill for hiring.
  • Manage, Plan, and Facilitate Meetings – working with clients.
  • Lead from your Heart – being genuine and honest with others.
  • Practical Strategies and Processes – inner workings of your association. 

Eligibility and Selection:

  • All REALTOR® members of the Cape Fear REALTORS® are eligible to apply for the Leadership Academy.
  • The electronic application will be sent to Designated REALTORS®/BIC’s and be made available via Broker Briefing and on capefear.realtor.
  • An anonymous selection committee selects participants based on the submitted participant application. The committee will be seeking representation from a cross-section of the profession reflecting the diversity of the CFR.  The committee selects a maximum of 19 individuals. 
  • The committee strongly encourages applicants who are not selected to apply the following year.

 

Additional Information:

  • Tuition is $349.00. The committee will award two scholarships each year to cover the tuition. 
  • Participants are responsible for transportation to the meetings and events.
  • If there is a scheduling conflict, participants may take that session the following year. Graduation is dependent upon completing the make-up session during the next program year.  Participants may only miss one scheduled session during the program year. 

Sessions to IncludE:

The Leadership Academy has been revamped in 2022 and we have partnered with Stefanie Adams of WNY People Development LLC to provide sessions designated for our members and participants that will support collaborative growth and build relationships and team synergy through interactive activities.

      • Who Are We, and Why Are We Here? - September 30, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on activities and discussion to create trust and cooperation among participants, dialogue to understand what each person wants to gain from the program, and best practices for leading effective meetings. Leadership Academy mixer to follow the session at 4:00 PM.   
      • Leadership Style – October 16, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on activities to self-assess leadership strengths and gaps, identify leadership style, and develop leadership goals.
      • Leadership Kickoff – October or November TBD, Tentative All-Day Date
        • Participants will join Committee and Board leadership for annual training that will prepare our members for serving on a Committee and/or an Association Board of Directors. 
      • Communication Style – December 6, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on reviewing completed Forte Communication Assessment and best practices and activities to develop active listening skills.
      • Coaching and Feedback – January 15, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on best practices for providing feedback.
      • Meet the Board – February 20, 2025, Tentative All-Day Date
        • Participants will get the opportunity to attend the CFR Board of Directors Meeting.
      • Leading Teams – March 19, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on creating positive workspaces, best practices for providing feedback, and activities on how to build strong, collaborative teams.
      • Legislative Day Bus Trip – April 9, 2025, Tentative All-Day Date
        • Participants attend the REALTOR® Legislative Briefing and Rally and meet with Senators and House Representatives.
      • Adventure Course – May 1, 2025, Tentative All-Day Date (May 21, 2025 will be held as a rain date)
        • Participants will experience a dynamic learning environment that reinforces communication, trust, teamwork, and decision-making skills. This program will include a high adventure challenge. 
      • Succession Planning and Academy Graduation Celebration – June 13, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM
        • Stefanie Adams facilitated session focused on SMART goals, developing recruitment plans for the next generation of CFR leaders, and a culmination activity.

       

Graduation is dependent upon attending each session; however, one absence is permitted from one session date, but participants should make every effort to take that session the following year.
